Arrived in Peshawar on time. The immediate impression was favourable over Karachi; much cleaner and not so built up. We arrived at the hotel and went straight to the tour reception. It was in the bar! We has couple of large whiskeys (local) whilst Veronica explained the details of the trip. We listened to this through the belches, sighs and mutterings of a large Sikh who sat in the corner and drank a whole bottle of gin on his own!
We ate afterwards at a BBQ next to the pool. Very good food and atmosphere. Shah, our guide, arranged for ‘The Colonel’, as we knew him, to come along. He said that he would be able to arrange for Pop to go onto the airbase a Risalpur and visit his old officer’s mess.
