Day 1

London to Delhi

Well, I’m in Heathrow airport on my way out to Delhi.  It’s 18 months since our trip to Pakistan and I’m going out to meet Pop for a 2 week tour of Northern India. HE is flying into Delhi from Singapore after having spent 6 weeks in NZ and Oz, firstly with his RAF chums in NZ then with Sheila Hancock in Brisbane.

Our trip is going to take in mainly sites relevant to the Indian Mutiny (1857-8), but we are also going up into the Himalayan foothills to Simla and also East to Calcutta.

I left home on a day which has been typical for April - heavy showers followed by bright sunshine. Beverley and the Boys waved goodbye as the taxi pulled away, the boys from in front of the sitting room curtains, as they used to when I caught the bus to work.  I shall miss them.

I am flying Virgin direct to Delhi, the business lounge is certainly very nice: attentive waitresses and good food; very different from BA.

I arrive tomorrow morning and have the whole day before Pop arrives in the evening.  I have to pick up a book I ordered from a publisher in Delhi (and maybe a few I didn’t order as well!).  The temperature is 102 at the moment so I don’t suppose I’ll be walking around too much.

Well 5 minutes till boarding, so I’ll finish my glass of wine and stroll to the gate.
